Today we took Gramdma, Tanya and Chris to my favorite place in Virginia - Colonial Williamburg. We had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful day; the temperature was not too hot, the humidity was down and we had blue skies. It is exciting to walk the streets and visits the places where events occured that led to the formation of our country. I am so grateful for the pratriots that fought so diligently for the freedoms we have.

We visited the capitol building where the houses of government met. Our tour guide did an amazing job staying in character throughout the tour.

As we walked down the Duke of Glouster Street we saw a Fife and Drum unit march down the street. 

We visited the Apothecary Shop and learned about the medicinal care of the colonists.  The colonists would buy items they might need ahead of time rather than wait until they were sick.  The Doctor's office was in the back of the Apothecary Shop.  The shop also carried cosmetic items the customers might need. 

Grandma loved our visit to the Milliner and Tailor Shop.  The fabrics were beautiful, and it was interesting to hear how the women would gather at the store and discuss what was fashionable.

We were also able to see the Governor's Palace with its amazing foyer and leather wall paper and the Randolph House after our picnic lunch.  There was still so much to see, but we were tired and needed to quit for the day.  Perhaps someday Grandma will get to come back for another visit with Grandpa and see more of Colonial Williamsburg.  I know Grandpa would love to see the gardens and the plantations.
